Asus to launch ZenFone range of smartphones in India

Asus is planning to launch its ZenFone smartphones in India next month. The company will launch the ZenFone models unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Computex this year.
Asus ZenFone 6 is its biggest model with a 6-inch HD screen. The device was unveiled at CES 2014, and runs Android 4.4 (KitKat) out-of-the-box. It has a 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 chipset and comes in 8, 16 and 32GB storage options expandable up to 64GB via microSD cards. It has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera.

The Asus ZenFone 5 unveiled at CES has a 5-inch display screen with 720p resolution. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and comes with two processor options- a 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 or 1.6GHz dual-core Atom Z2560. The smartphone is available in 8GB or 16GB variants with microSD expandable memory up to 64GB paired with 1GB and 2GB RAM, respectively. The ZenFone 5 has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera.

The ZenFone 5 model showcased at Computex featured a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor instead of the Intel chipset. It comes with 2GB RAM and 16 and 32GB storage variants. The remaining features remain the same as that of its predecessor.

The ZenFone 4, has a 4-inch display with 800x480 pixels resolution. It runs on Android KitKat and has an Intel chipset dual-core 1.2GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It has 8GB internal storage expandable up to 64GB via microSD support. The smartphone has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera.

Asus unveiled the ZenFone 4 at the Computex 2014 with a slight bigger 4.5-inch screen with 854x480 pixels resolution. The remaining features and specifications are the same.
Asus has launched the smartphone in the Chinese market while India is among the few countries where Asus will launch the ZenFone products unveiled at Computex. The devices are expected to be priced for the budget to mid-range buyers.

Asus may also introduce the MemoPad and FonePad products that will debut at the July 09 event. Asus already sells its PadFone and MemoPad voice calling tablets in India. The Taiwanese handset maker will face a heavy competition from Samsung and Motorola as well as domestic brands like Lava, Xolo and Micromax.

BlackBerry Passport unveiled, scheduled for launch in September | Future Plans bu Blackberry for FY2015 | ReviewRulezz.blogspot.com

BlackBerry Passport unveiled, scheduled for launch in September

The so called "most innovative" BlackBerry till date which has also been the most-talked about BlackBerry smartphone recently, was finally revealed by CEO John Chen.

BlackBerry Passport unveiled, scheduled for launch in September

During BlackBerry's quarterly earnings report, CEO John Chen finally unveiled the company's next "big" smartphone, the BlackBerry Passport. The previous rumors that we had earlier about a phone codenamed "Windermere," actually is, Passport.
Apart from Passport, BlackBerry also unveiled the BlackBerry Classic which has been known as BlackBerry Q20 till now. The smartphone is also expected to run BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS which will also be available to all the current BlackBerry 10 smartphones. These smartphones were expected to be launched alongside BlackBerry Z3 which is expected to launch in India soon

.

BlackBerry has gone with its conventional physical QWERTY keypads on both the phones even though users have been demanding an on-screen keyboard. Passport is expected to be the flagship of the company for this year and looking at the pictures, it actually does look like a passport.
An important feature to point out here is that the keypad on BlackBerry Passport lacks punctuation and numeric keys. But according to PhoneArena, users will be able to swipe over the keys for additional functions. One more interesting thing to note about the Passport is the position of the spacebar - which has been placed between the "V" and the "B" keys of the keyboard.

Classic on the hand, will have the "classic" BlackBerry keyboard with all the functions and buttons.
Now coming to the main attraction of BlackBerry Passport. The smartphone is quite oddly shaped and the company expects it to change things around. The Passport has a 4.5-inch display with a 1440x1440 resolution which makes it a square and quite unlike the everyday rectangular screens that we see on almost every smartphone. But still, BlackBerry isn't new to the square screens on its smartphones - BlackBerry Q10 came with a square shaped display.

What makes the Passport stand out even more is the display size - 4.5" which is quite big for a squarish display. This makes the smartphone stand quite wide at 3.18-inches which makes it even broader than Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 (2.79-inches).
BlackBerry has also entered a deal with Amazon recently through which Passport users will get access to Android apps sold on Amazon App Store. But one thing that remains a secret is the way through which BlackBerry will customize these apps to run on a square screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio. Guess we will have to wait till September to see all the Android apps in action on the screen of Passport.
Even though BlackBerry hasn't confirmed or released an official specs-preview, rumors point that the BlackBerry Passport will run a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to have a 3450mAh battery.
BlackBerry has said that Passport will be launched at a UK event in September. CEO John Chen also announced that BBM for Windows Phone will be launched in July.

Micromax launches 2 Windows Phones in India for under Rs. 10K

Both the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, dual-SIM connectivity and 1GB of RAM.

Micromax has launched two Windows Phone 8.1-based smartphones - 'Canvas Win W121' and 'Canvas Win W092' in India. The smartphones are priced at Rs. 9,500 and Rs. 6,500 respectively, and will be available from July.
First up is the Micromax Canvas Win W121. The smartphone features a 5-inch IPS HD display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 1.2GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. The W121 has an 8MP rear camera with flash and a 2 megapixel front camera with 8 GB memory expandable to 32 GB. It also has dual-SIM capability.

“Expanding our partner ecosystem and making it easier to bring Windows Phones to new markets at, more price points remains a top priority. Several of our new partners such as BLU, InFocus, Prestigio and Yezz unveiled Windows Phones 8.1 devices at Computex a few weeks ago. These new devices are a result of the announcement we made back in February at Mobile World Congress with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and $0 Windows for devices smaller than 9-inches in size which has enabled partners to more quickly and efficiently bring Windows Phones in to their mobile devices portfolio,” says Microsoft on its official Windows Blog.
Of late, smartphone companies including Indian brands are looking for alternatives to Google's Android OS. While Samsung is already working on Tizen, Indian brands such as Xolo and Micromax are exploring the Windows platform. Recently, Xolo launched its first Windows 8.1 -based tablet – Xolo Win.
At the MWC 2014 event held earlier this year, Microsoft updated its device partners list for Windows Phone 8, adding device makers such as Foxconn, Gionee, JSR, Longcheer, Xolo (Lava) and Karbonn along with previous manufacturers Samsung, HTC, Huawei and ZTE.
Moreover, local brands Intex and Spice in coordination with Mozilla are going to soon launch low-cost Firefox-based smartphones in India.  That said, Micromax is one of the largest smartphone brands in India. Launch of budget Windows Phone devices from Micromax will certainly help boost adoption of Windows Phone platform in India.

Micromax Canvas Gold A300 with octa-core CPU specs, pictures leak

The Canvas Entice A105 apparently isn't the only new Micromax device we'll see this month. The Indian company has scheduled a press conference for June 16, and during that it may officially introduce the Canvas Gold A300.
This smartphone will reportedly come with some pretty interesting specs. And the 'Gold' in the name isn't there by accident, as the color options for it will be called White Gold and Black Gold. They can be seen below.

The Micromax Canvas Gold A300 is rumored to sport a 6.9 mm thin metal body, as well as a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen.
Keeping things running will be a 2 GHz octa-core CPU, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage space. The exact chipset isn't mentioned, but given the processor details, it's probably going to be the MediaTek MT6592.
A 16 MP camera will be on the back of the phone, and the 8 MP front-facing unit will surely make selfie lovers happy. The A300 is said to run Android 4.4 KitKat from day one.
This handset may be joined at the Micromax event on Monday by the company's first device to run Windows Phone 8.1. It got detailed last month, and it's rumored to come with a 5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and a 13 MP rear camera.
Update: Even more images showing the Micromax Canvas Gold A300 have surfaced. Thanks to them the front of the handset has been revealed for the first time.

Govts. can listen to your phone calls as they happen: Vodafone

Governments around the world have direct access to phone conversations of millions of their citizens with the help of secret wires that directly connect to phone networks, Vodafone disclosed today. The multinational telecom company that has operations in 29 countries including India, revealed that governments had direct access to the phone networks of multiple telcos and could even listen to and record live conversations, track down locations of users and seize data for analysis before its routed to the telecom operator. Vodafone will publish its first ever Law Enforcement Disclosure Report on Friday that is reported to be 40,000 words long and will be one of the most intensive looks at how governments around the world are snooping on their own people.
According to a news report by The Guardian, such direct access methods do not require a court issued warrant and the identities of the surveillance subjects aren't disclosed by the governments even to the telecom operators. Vodafone revealed that in six of the countries it operated in, governments could legally setup direct access pipes which could just be equipment placed inside a network operator's central data centre or any of its exchanges.
Vodafone has released initial data from its disclosure report but has blacked out information for certain countries including India, stating that "it is unlawful to publish aggregate statistics".
