Xiaomi’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Mi smartphones in ‘final testing’ stages

In line with the previous report about Android Marshmallow being rolled out for select Xiaomi devices, a new GizmoChina report states that the update is in its final testing stages and will roll out soon.
Xiaomi has revealed that the company is testing Marshmallow for the Mi 3, Mi 4 and Mi Note, and will release an update soon, adds the report. It will release with a new version of MIUI 7, which was earlier based on an older Android iteration.
“Back when Xiaomi unveiled the brand new MIUI 7 ROM, many fans were disappointed to see that most of the devices which were

going to get the new update would be stuck on Android 4.4, instead of Lollipop. At that time, Xiaomi had said that users shouldn’t be worried about the Android version as the features of the MIUI 7 would be the same on all devices,” points out GizmoChina.
A report earlier this month revealed that MIUI Operations Manager had put out small post on Weibo stating the company’s Mi 4 and Mi Note smartphones will be the first ones in its line-up to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. More importantly, the manager also clarified that users would be getting the latest version of Android soon and that company has already rolled out the software to its closed beta testers community.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update for Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note in 'Final Testing Stage'

Various smartphone manufacturers have begun rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to their devices in past few weeks, while many others have revealed the update roadmap for their devices. Xiaomi has now revealed Android 6.0 Marshmallow will reach its Mi 3, Mi 4, and Mi Note soon, with a new version of MIUI 7.
As per Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is said to be in its final testing stages and will start rolling out soon, reports Gizmochina. This will also be a welcome change for those who were disappointed when Xiaomi released its MIUI 7 ROM based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. A user on Weibo has also posted a screenshot showing MIUI 5.12.24 update based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The images shows the update to weigh 518MB.

Earlier this month the same company manager confirmed that its Mi 4 flagship smartphone along with Mi Note would be the first smartphones in its lineup to receive the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
To recall, Xiaomi's Mi 4 was launched back in 2014 running Android 4.4 KitKat initially while the Mi Note was unveiled this year and also came running Android 4.4 KitKat version. Notably, the company released Android Lollipop based MIUI 7 ROMs for its handsets in October this year.
For those unaware, the MIUI 7 comes with a number of features such as four built-in themes, a daily lock screen that changes its wallpaper everyday, and a ne

w mode that gives a user the option to lock down apps they don't want their kids to access. As for improvements, the company claims that MIUI 7 offers up to 30 percent better response time than MIUI 6. Users should also find it light on battery as some tweaks on how the operating system handles the background apps have been introduced.

WhatsApp video-calling feature spotted online: report

WhatsApp is testing video-calling feature as well, according to a series of new
leaks that have surfaced online

After voice calls, WhatsApp is reportedly rumoured to be working on video calls. There are no officials dates or information from WhatsApp as to when the video-calling feature will go live. According to German website Macerkopf, users can opt for both the cameras for video-calls.

For WhatsApp, adding new features is no longer a question of choice, but one of necessity. With over 900 million monthly active users , the app is now as big as its parent company Facebook. With Facebook Messenger already supporting video-calling, WhatsApp needs to evolve and add more features.

While the voice-calling was already announced this year, video-calling appears to be the natural next step of progression for WhatsApp.

It will be interesting to see how WhatsApp video calls perform on mobile Internet. While free WhatsApp voice calls attracted a lot of attention from users before, but soon people started to ignore it, at least in India, where it is almost impossible to have a proper conversation on even 3G networks.

In order to be successful, the video-calls will have to be optimised for slower networks, especially for regions like India where WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps.

WhatsApp had recently announced that they have over 900 million monthly active users.
