OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 3T smartphone, which is an upgrade over the OnePlus 3 flagship. OnePlus has changed the processor in the new phone and it now comes with the Snapdragon 821 processor and a bigger battery and front camera. The OnePlus 3T starts at $439 in the US, which is around Rs 29,000. The new phone is not listed on the India store yet, and it looks like this will take some time to come to India. However, OnePlus is also trying to reassure users who bought the earlier version of the phone, and says that they consider “OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T to be two versions of the same phone.”

In the announcement, OnePlus says software updates will follow the same schedule for both phones, and is promising Android Nougat update on OnePlus 3, 3T later in the year. The blogpost also says OnePlus 3T has “key improvements that couldn’t be pushed out through software update releases,” including the new Snapdragon 821 processor.

OnePlus 3T also comes in a 128GB storage version and two colour options called ‘bold Gunmetal’ and ‘soft gold.’ However only the Gunmetal option has 128GB version. OnePlus says the 64GB Soft Gold edition of the OnePlus 3T will be available shortly after launch, while the Gunmetal version goes on sale on November 22 in the US and November 28 in the EU.

So what are the specifications of the OnePlus 3T? It comes with the same 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with 401 ppi pixel density. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top and OnePlus 3T continues with the AMOLED display. It also comes with a night mode. Dimensions of the OnePlus 3T are 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm and it weighs 158 g,which is exactly the same as the OnePlus 3 phone.

The processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 which is quad-core one and the GPU is Adreno 530. Like the earlier phone, this one too comes with 6GB LPDDR RAM and not 8GB as was being rumoured. Storage options include 64GB or 128GB with UFS 2.0.  The rear camera on the OnePlus 3T remains the same at 16MP with the Sony IMX 298 Sensor and 1.12 µm pixel size. There’s OIS, PDAF, 4K video resolution as well Slow Motion (720p at 120fps). The camera also supports RAW Image and has a Sapphire crystal lens cover.


The front camera has been bumped up in the OnePlus 3T and is now a 16MP one with the Samsung 3P8SP Sensor and 1.0 µm pixel size. It supports EIS, Auto-focus, PDAF, has an aperture of f/2.0 and will shoot 1080p video at 30fps.

Battery in the OnePlus 3T is 3,400 mAh (non-removable), more than the 3000 mAh on the OnePlus 3. It also comes with Dash Charge support, which promises a day’s worth of battery life in just 30 minutes of charge. It has a USB 2.0 Type-C charging port, Dual-nano SIM slot and 3.5 mm headphone jack as well. This is a 4G LTE (Cat 6) smartphone with support for Bands 1/2/4/5/8 in North America version. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou

Sensors on the list of the OnePlus 3T are Fingerprint sensor, Hall sensor, Accelerometor, Gyroscope, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and Electronic Compass. OnePlus 3T has the same bottom-facing speakers as the earlier phone and comes with dual-microphone with noise cancellation. Both phones currently run OxygenOS with Android M.

Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge: What we liked, What we didn't.

 The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have a lot riding on them, more than earlier flagships from Samsung. These two could make it or break it for Samsung this year

Another year, another Samsung flagship, but this time it’s different. Samsung has a lot more riding on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge than its earlier flagships. The company started has been taking a hit since the lacklustre sales and flagging public reactionof the Galaxy S4. In fact, Samsung was forced to launch the Galaxy S5 earlier than it would have liked.

The main complaint against Samsung has always been about design and user experience. While the company has never really compromised on power, the user experience from both design and interface point of views have often been lacklustre. The Touchwiz UI was arguably the most bloated UI of all, while the cheap plastic designs got old very fast, especially since Samsung started to aim at the high-end segment.So, with the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung has finally embraced the metal design, but will these devices be Samsung’s saving grace? You, the consumer will decide that and for that, you need to know more about them.

Samsung Galaxy S6

The metal unibody of the S6 is beyond question, but the overall design is. While the S6 definitely brings change, it bears a striking resemblance to the boring Samsung design that we’ve seen before. That said, you may have already seen the Galaxy Note 4, which means you can appreciate Samsung’s 2K Super AMOLED displays. The 5.1 inch 2K display on the S6 is a welcome addition.
In fact, so is the 16MP camera on the back. Samsung has generally done well with its cameras and the 16MP sensor on the Galaxy Note 4 is one of the best you can find in the market. Also, the company compared the device directly to the iPhone 6 Plus, which many (including us) have called the best smartphone camera in the market today.

The device also supports fast and wireless charging, which is good, especially if Samsung’s claim that the battery gets 4 hours of charging 10 minutes are true. This is another area where the Note 4 has excelled.

The metal unibody of course means Samsung had to give up the removable back and microSD card support, something that many of its users may miss. It’s of course an understandable compromise for making the device more premium, but we keep going back to the design here. The Galaxy S6 is no looker, especially when compared to the likes of the HTC One M9 ,iPhone 6 and Sony Xperia Z3 One area where the S6 may underwhelm is the power. While Samsung hasn’t usually lacked in this department, the decision to not go with the Snapdragon 810 may haunt it. The company says that the Exynos 7 octa-core 64-bit SoC powering the Galaxy S6 is more powerful than competitors, but Exynos processors have till now been less powerful than the corresponding Snapdragons.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The true change in the design department is in the S6 Edge. The world’s first dual-edge smartphone looks unique to say the least and quite unique, unlike the Galaxy S6. The Edge displays on both vertical edges of the smartphone of course add a lot to the design, but they may truly be useful now that they’re on both sides. There’s a lot more that can be done. Of course, developer support will be of the utmost importance for this.
The S6 Edge has all the pros of the Galaxy S6 and adds a couple of its own through the Edge displays. In fact, while the Edge display may not be something any of us really need, it’s definitely something we really want. Also, the phone looks good, an area where the Galaxy S6 still lags behind.

Yes, the power is still a bit of a question, but except that, the S6 Edge seems to be the true flagship smartphone that Samsung owed its users.

Touchwiz

Samsung’s UI has been the other thing that the company has been often questioned on. Well, while the refreshed version of Touchwiz here will come with lesser bloatware, we really have to use it for a while to believe it. Also, Samsung has for some reason included Microsoft apps on its new flagship smartphones, which is an interesting choice.
The move reaffirms Samsung’s interest in making the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge attractive to both business and regular buyers. The company is also adding free storage space on OneDrive with its flagships, but the sudden partnership for Microsoft apps doesn’t really make a lot of sense for consumers who don’t use them. You may find OneNote and others to be useless bits of software that you’re forced to keep on your phone.

Price

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is the price at which Samsung plans to sell these phones. Leaked pricing reports suggest a starting price of €699 (approx Rs. 49,000) for the 32GB Galaxy S6, while the S6 Edge starts at €849 (approx Rs. 60,000) for the 32GB model. Considering Samsung’s pricing for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 before this, this isn’t really a surprise.
That said, the company has made a wise decision in not going for a 16GB model for the S6 and S6 Edge. If the 32GB model is priced competitively, then the S6 could easily sell like hot cakes, despite its shortcomings. On the other hand, if Samsung decides to go with its current track record in pricing (which is likely), then the S6 and S6 Edge may fail to mark Samsung’s comeback.

What’s New in Samsung’s Galaxy S6 – Mobile World

 

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge has curved edges.

Samsung Electronics launched its latest Galaxy S6 smartphone together with a curved-screen variant—the Galaxy S6 Edge—in Barcelona Sunday, its latest attempt at battling a pair of Apple’s large-screen iPhones.

Apart from the metal frames and curved displays, here are some notable changes to the new Galaxy S6 that may not be so apparent from the design.

More Exynos chips.  According to people familiar with the matter,  the new smartphone will  be powered by  Samsung’s own internally made application processors. This is a notable change and an aggressive push by Samsung to make more use of its Exynos chips that analysts say should help profits from its semiconductor division. In recent years, the company has relied mostly on Qualcomm chips to power its flagship smartphones.  The move was possible by Samsung’s migration to more advanced  14-nanometer chip processing technology—one of the industry’s most advanced  –which allows chip makers to cut down on production cost and enable faster data transmission.

Wireless recharging.  Having an extra battery has been a trademark of flagship Galaxy S smartphones for a long time. Samsung executives used to boast that its phones came with a removable battery unlike a number of competing smartphones that come with built-in batteries. But Samsung has given up on the luxury of having a removable battery, and instead, opted to enhance the phone’s wireless charging capabilities in the Galaxy S6. Samsung says the new Galaxy S6 phone supports two different types of wireless-charging technologies: Wireless Power Consortium (WPC)  and Power Matters Alliance (PMA).  But to the average consumer, this all just means you need a wireless charging pad like ones found in retail stores and coffee chains. Samsung is offering a portable charging pad to go with the S6 phones, for extra cash.

No more “pop-up” questions?  Samsung says it has made an effort to have a more simple user interface, which was not only about cutting down on bloatware but also removing layers of pop-up questions. “We took a lot of ours out and cut down questions like, do you need this?, those type of questions you face,” said Lee Young-hee, head of mobile marketing in a recent interview.

LG G Pro 2 officially launched in India for Rs 51,500

G Pro 2 features a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, Android 4.4 and 5.9-inch HD display.

LG has launched the much-awaited successor to the Optimus G Pro, the LG Pro 2 smartphone in India for Rs. 51,500. The smartphone is available at a discounted price of Rs. 49,900 through e-commerce website Snapdeal.

The LG G Pro 2 was announced by LG in February at the Mobile World Conference. The smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat OS out-of-the-box. It has a 5.9-inch full-HD IPS display with 1080x1920 pixels resolution. The smartphone has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.26GHz processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It has a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an Optical Image Stabilizer Plus. The smartphone houses a 2.1MP front-facing camera as well. It supports 4K Ultra HD recording, wit Magic Focus, Natural Flash, Flash for Selfie, and Burst Shot.

The LG G Pro 2 supports advanced connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, GPRS/ EDGE and 3G support. It packs a 3,200mAh battery. The smartphone is available in Titan Black, Silver and White colours. It's 16GB variant is priced at Rs 51,500 while the 32GB variant is expected to be launched soon for Rs 53,000 (approx). The smartphone will compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, which was launched for Rs 49,990.

Following the success of the G Pro, we are launching the new G Pro 2, with enhanced features, based on the feedback of our consumers. The year 2014, is going to be an exciting year, as LG plans to bring out a string of innovative devices, which will capture the imagination of users. By year end, we intend to take on 10% share of the Indian smartphone market."
