Frostbite technical director Johan Andersson has been speaking out about the potential leap in system requirements we may be seeing in the next eighteen months. The Electronic Arts tech man has overseen the creation of the Frostbite game engine, used for the likes of Battlefield 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Need for Speed: Rivals, and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront.
Looking forward to holiday 2016, Andersson recently spoke out on Twitter about how he would like to require Windows 10 and DirectX 12 to be the minimum spec needed for next-generation Frostbite games, presumably Frostbite 4. EA’s 2016 slate is thought to include Mirror’s Edge 2, Mass Effect 4, and, of course,Battlefield 5.
On Twitter earlier today Andersson wrote he“would like to require Win10 & DX12/WDDM2.0 as a minspec for our holiday 2016 games on Frostbite, likely a bit aggressive but major benefits.”
Later on Andersson reiterated his belief that Windows 10 takeup will be extremely fast throughout the PC gaming community, saying “I do think the Win10 adoption within core gamers will be really quite fast, and Microsoft is helping with their upgrade program.”
It sounds more and more like Windows 10 and DirectX 12 support is going to be a huge game-changer in terms of visual quality and hardware performance.
