Xbox Head Admits Microsoft Has Ignored PC Gamers - Claims This Will Change Right Now

Phil Spencer, the head honcho of Xbox, has admitted Microsoft hasn’t been fully committed to PC gaming in recent years, but that’s all set to change now. Speaking ahead of his appearance in next week’s PC Gaming Show at E3 2015, Spencer has reiterated that Microsoft is taking PC gaming seriously now.

The dark shadow of Games For Windows Live hangs heavy over Microsoft, which is going to be taking another stab at a PC gaming digital storefront with its Windows 10 Store, set to go live on July 29th. Talking about this, Spencer said "We weren't fully committed as a company, and I've said that before. We made commitments to developers and consumers that I don't feel we lived up to."

GFWL was almost unanimously disliked, and to this day a number of titles still remain locked behind the dead service. The difference this time around, Spencer believes, is that Microsoft isn’t putting all its eggs in one basket with GFWL or the Xbox One, but treating Xbox as an entire ecosystem across PCs, mobiles, and the consoles.

Spencer claims Microsoft “has never committed more resources to making Windows better for game developers and gamers” than with Windows 10, with the Xbox service cited as the platform from which it will deliver improvements to PC gaming.

It’s almost bizarre by this stage that Microsoft, who owns the largest gaming platform on the planet in the shape of the Windows operating systems, has been focusing its gaming divisions almost exclusively on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It’s apparent Spencer sees the value in the PC market it helped create.

In terms of the support, it’s unclear what form this will take. Microsoft hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with PC exclusives, and Spencer hasn’t promised any either. At the very least it would be great to see more of Microsoft’s games make it to PC, like in the early days of the Xbox 360, and we can see the seeds of this with the F2P Fable Legends, out later this year.

See what head of Xbox Phil Spencer has to say for himself here on GD next week, where we'll be bringing you the PC Gaming Show live, running on Tuesday, June 16 at 5PM PT / 8PM ET / Wednesday, June 17th 1AM BST.
