Apple’s iOS 9 to focus on stability and optimisations and not just feature additions

Looks like Apple isn’t worrying about designing a flashy new OS but will rather focus heavily on improving stability and optimisations for their yet to release iOS 9.

According to a report by 9to5mac, the company plans to take a step back from rapidly releasing new features for their iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch for 2015, so that they can build a better framework and make sure that everything already offered works more consistently.

In the past, Apple had followed the same path with desktop updates in the past for Snow Leopard, the update to OS X that followed Leopard and brought the same kind of stability improvements. This will be a welcome change as most iOS 8 users suffered great problems such as slow Wi-Fi, battery drain, screen rotation problems, Bluetooth connectivity failures and many more adding to the list.

Apple, which focuses each year to release an updated interface along with various additions, has code-named iOS 9 as Monarch which is said to include a collection of under-the-hood improvements.

Sources told 9to5mac that iOS 9 engineers are putting a “huge” focus on fixing bugs, maintaining stability, and boosting performance for the new operating system, rather than solely focusing on delivering major new feature additions.The company is also making efforts to keep the size of the OS and updates manageable, especially for those iOS device owners which have 16GB devices.

We’re hoping that Apple showcases their iOS 9 at WWDC 2015 later this year.

Along with iOS 9 in the news, the company is also going strong to release the Apple Watch this year for which it has already started training retail employees for it. The training doesn’t reveal any news details, but does hint that Watch is coming to stores sooner rather than later. Apple is also believed to use traditional jewelry store tactics for its gold variant of the watch.

As reported earlier, it will select a few employees for a more hands-on training of the watch over the next couple of weeks.
