Samsung Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6: TouchWiz vs iOS 8 Comparison

Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 have been compared several times on the specs front, however this time it is going to be a little different. Here is a brief comparison between the Galaxy S6’s TouchWiz and iPhone 6’s iOS 8.

Ease of Use

Some people believe that iPhone 6’s iOS 8 is an incredibly easy mobile operating system to use and it is easier to learn than Galaxy S6’s TouchWiz is. I have to agree here because what we’re focusing on right now is ease of use. iOS might restrict you on the number of features and customization options that you have to choose from, and that is exactly why it is easier to use for most people. iOS is made for the casual user and this is where it excels.
Spotlight search was great at finding apps before but with the most recent update it now pulls in news sources from places like Wikipedia, Maps, CNN and more. You can get this type of functionality somewhat on Android and TouchWiz but Spotlight search brings the content directly into the pull down panel without having to do aGoogle search for your results. Most people who use Android don’t mind doing this Google search but you can’t deny that having this information embedded directly into the OS is more convenient.
Double tapping on the home button brings up some really useful features too. At the bottom of the iPhone 6 screen on iOS you have quick access to some of your applications. In the middle of the screen is your recents/overview page that we are used to on Samsung Galaxy S6’s TouchWiz so that isn’t anything new. However, at the very top of this screen you have access to your favorite contacts and this is incredibly convenient. Samsung has enabled some of your favorite contacts to sit in the right edge of the screen for the S6 Edge but if you get the regular version then you don’t get this feature.

Functionality

Samsung Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6 - TouchWiz vs iOS 8 Comparison

This isn’t to say that iOS 8 on iPhone 6 beats TouchWiz of Samsung Galaxy S6 hands down. Samsung has put a lot of work into TouchWiz and it shows with the release of the Galaxy S6. Being able to have access to your notifications with a single swipe down from the top(whether the device is unlocked or not) is incredibly convenient and Samsung beats out the iPhone in this respect. Granted, this is more of a feature with Android 5.0 Lollipop than specifically for TouchWiz but we think it still counts.
Samsung’s version of Multi-Window is hands down one of the best available today. This feature is more appreciated on the Galaxy Note series with its larger display but the Galaxy S6 is still perfectly capable of this. This is one of those more complicated features that TouchWiz has and while it might be too much for the average person to understand, it really adds to the functionality of the OS when compared to iOS 8 of iPhone 6.
We also think having those customizable Quick Settings toggles at the top is a very useful feature. This is one of those things that are nice to have even when the default setup, but when you expand it down and start to organize your most favorite toggles at the top, this is when the feature really shines. Just like changing the Theme for the Galaxy S6(which is another feature that we love), allowing the user to customize their device and tailor it exactly how they would use it is a very satisfying feature.
I hate to say it but there really isn’t a clear winner here in the battle of iPhone 6’s iOS 8 versus Samsung Galaxy S6 TouchWiz. For me personally, Android and TouchWiz are the clear winner but we all have our own preferences and iOS might be your favorite OS of choice. It’s easy to get swept up in the Android versus iOS fight but each platform offers unique feature and the way they approach the operating system. Which one is your favorite mobile operating system?
