Google I/O 2015: Expectations For Android M, Google Glass, Project Ara, Android TV, Auto, Android Silver

It won’t be long until Google will be hosting its annual I/O conference, and this year they have an impressive amount of projects to present. It’s time to talk dates and names as we take a look at what the tech magnate has in store for us at this year’s Google I/O.
A new operating system? A new gadget? Google sure has a lot in store for us. 2014 was a big year for them, but this one will be bigger. Google I/O will begin on the 28th of May and continue through the 29th. It is going to start at 5:30pm UK time and will be held at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco. This is the same location regularly used by Apple and Microsoft. You’ll be able to watch the event live as it unfolds, with plenty of livestreams available online and an exclusive Google I/O app straight from the company.

Android M in the Spotlight

Android MOne of the things we’re expecting from Google I/O this year is Android M. This is arguably one of the most exciting things to expect at the grand event. Android Lollipop is still reaching most devices, and it was a fantastic improvement over KitKat, but Android M is supposed to bring forth some additional features which are very exciting. A good example is the built-in fingerprint authentication system. We don’t know what else Google has in store with this OS, but it’s going to be big for sure. Speculation remains about what the M will actually stand for, but it’ll probably be a sweet name (literally).

Google Glass Making a Comeback

As we’ve previously seen, Google Glass didn’t take off as widely as some expected last year. It was an ambitious project but there was a lot of controversy around it. We have confirmation that Google Glass is going to be a main topic at Google I/O 2015, and as it turns out, it uses an Intel chipset. The device is still a prototype, so we don’t know what to expect, but it will probably be pretty cool.

Project Ara Rising in Popularity

Project AraHow could we forget about Project Ara? This is one of the coolest projects we’ve seen for the past couple of years. Project Ara will completely change the way we look at smartphones by fragmenting devices. Basically, your phone will be made of tiny modules, like a small electronic piece that makes up the camera, or a large square that makes up the battery. This means that you can essentially customize every tiny piece of your phone, or upgrade individual hardware components instead of changing your phone completely. The best part? It’s probably going to be really cheap.
This project is still a prototype, but we’re going to find out more about it this year at I/O. It doesn’t have a release date, and it’s not even widely recognized as an official Google Product, however it is incredibly exciting.

Android TV & Android Auto

Let’s not forget that Google is also working on versions of its OS for your car and your living room. Android TV and Android Auto will offer you some brilliant features and make your life easier when driving or when trying to watch a good movie. It’s probably going to be a while until this software picks up on more automobile manufacturers, but it’s exciting.

Android Silver to Replace Nexus Line?

For years, Google has been trying to get Android Silver beyond the conceptual stage. It’s basically a certification system that ensures a stock experience for the customer. Say that Company X makes an Android device with no bloatware or additions to the stock Android experience. That would make it receive the Android Silver status. The question that arises here is: will this replace the Nexus line? This question comes due to the fact that Nexus devices are supposed to be 100% pure Android devices.
That sums up the main points of interest regarding Google I/O 2015. Are you excited about the event? If so, please leave a comment, and tell us what you’re most excited about.
